Tryingtogetby – What It’s All About

Ska, Punk, some Hip-Hop and a whole lot of heart are pushing Tryingtogetby to the forefront of modern punk rock.

Tyler Miller is still trying to chase the dream(or maybe its a nightmare) in a world where everything sucks. After touring with Voices of Addiction and solo across most of the US, the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020 forcing everything to a halt. While stuck in quarantine, with no shows, and everyone doing their part to bring it all to an end, Miller started writing. The writing turned to recording with Miller covering all instruments and before long, Tryingtogetby had an EP to put out. What It’s All About releases April 16th on Havoc Underground.

To get things started, “OHNO” delivers some classic Ska Punk sounds, with Time Armstrong with The Transplants style vocal delivery. The killer bass groove really gets things going, making it impossible to sit still. “OHNO” releases as a single and with an accompanying video April 2nd with streaming presaves open now. “Shatter” gives more great bass with soulful lead guitar. The hip-hop style vocals through most of the song give way to some aggressive punk rock and shouts of “Nothing ever mattered!”

The anthem of 2020 could easily be “Welcome To The Shitshow”. Well rounded Ska Punk with 2 Tone guitar for the verses, and crunchy, rapid chord progressions for the chorus. With how the last year has treated everyone, this song is very aptly titled. A more aggressive approach to social commentary towards the state of the US is “The Unknown”. This one hits on opinions towards police and the still ongoing protests against police brutality, immigration policy, and more as told from the standpoint of the oppressed. The vocal delivery is packed with anger and but clear with its message.

Tryingtogetby mixes up a bit of traditional ska, punk, and touches of hip-hop into a range of emotions, some solid grooves, and enough aggression to call attention. What It’s All About will be available for streaming on all platforms, as well as a limited lathe-cut vinyl and CD. Tryingtogetby plans to bring some folks onboard to tour when things open back up.
