Bel Ronin is a project with the mission of taking music to any place it seems fit. Self-described as a “vehicle to dive down any musical rabbit hole,” the options for style are endless. The first single off of an in-the-works debut EP is “A Compass Cracked”. While originally slated for a February 14th release date, Bel Ronin got itchy, pulled the trigger and released the single early on streaming platforms. For this particular outing, Bel Ronin is joined by Adrian Arredondo on drums and Isaiah Ferguson on bass. The vocals, guitar, drums, and bass were recorded with the classic live-recording process, where they played together, vise each part individually and mixed together in post-production.
“A Compass Cracked” opens with the unmistakable tone of Fender single-coil pickups with the warmth of an ever slightly overdriven amplifier. The bass and vocals come in perfectly together. The harmonic vocals of the chorus are quickly lodged in memory. The keyboard playing that follows the first chorus is an incredible addition. The overall production, and lack of specific genre rules (a bit of rock, touches of pop and soul, and a killer bass groove), give “A Compass Cracked” a refreshing approach towards finding a niche within the realm of modern music.
Bel Ronin delivers a great debut single that brews anticipation of what is yet to come. The EP is planned to be released this year, but no specific date has been given. For now, be sure to check out “A Compass Cracked” on your favorite streaming platform.
