The Animal Warfare Act took the time granted from the global pandemic as a positive and set to work on new material. They got to play a handful of regional shows between levels of restrictions and tested that new material on audiences with seemingly good responses. They have compiled enough new songs to have put together a new album set for release this summer. New restrictions and rising levels of new cases put a delay on some plans, but that only allowed them to really master their newest release to its full potential.
This new release, “Further Down the Line”, has seemingly been a fan favorite at live shows for a little while now, but this is its first true recording. It is faster with a more simplistic riff and rhythm than previous releases, but still hits on the themes and ideals The Animal Warfare Act have dedicated themselves to. Per their press release, “Further Down the Line calls out the world’s elite for their apathy towards and inaction regarding the climate catastrophes they are causing.” With a charity benefiting live show coming up later in April, and the band’s intent to donate proceeds from the Bandcamp release of the single to environmental causes , The Animal Warfare Act are continuing their mission of aiding the planet recover from the damage inflicted on it by careless and greedy humans.
However bold and selfless their pursuit may be, it seems to be overshadowed by the bands ability to disgust and appall their audience. Their self-proclaimed “vicious music” ostensibly repulses the listener, even causing some to expel the contents of their digestive systems, often in violent ways. The raucous yet well produced single was dispersed among friends, family, and select fans for a special early listen as an attempt to build anticipation for the video and upcoming album. They asked only for a reaction video in return, with the hopes of capturing the delight and approval from those whose opinions they respect to use as a music video. To say “things did not go as planned” is the very definition of an understatement. Not one sent in video showed a single pleased audience. The song they thought had fans clamoring for more, has actually been them begging for it to stop.
Catch the video full of reactions down below and be sure to watch for the release on Bandcamp as well as that upcoming live show. The full album is set to be released later this summer.
