Discover a Fire is a four piece melodic punk rock band from Norfolk, England. The Rest Is Mystery is set to be released September 20th, 2019.
The three song teaser does its exact job and teases what appears to be a fantastic album. It is hard to believe this is being released in 2019. From the teaser, this album and band would fit in perfectly alongside any late 90’s and early 2000’s melodic punk rock band and its easy to imagine they would have played Vans Warped Tour in its heyday. Discover a Fire is definitely for fans of Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, and Rufio, among others.
The songs on the teaser are the album title track, “The Rest Is Mystery”, “Heads You Win, Tails I Lose”, and “Enslaved”. “The Rest Is Mystery” sets this teaser off running. Instantly tapping and humming along. It is easy to tell why this is the album title track. It is catchy, without being annoying about it. “Heads You Win, Tails I Lose” is a skate song and would accompany any skate video excellently. The sound of rolling skateboard wheels and popping of boards would only benefit the song. “Enslaved” is the heavy hitter of the three. It is the right amount personal emotion added to punk rock tone, and it is only exemplified by the melancholy guitar solo towards the end. It will be interesting to see where this song ends up in the mix of the full album.
The Rest Is Mystery is an album to look out for. If you are a fan of the older melodic punk rock, or if this is a gateway to the genre, this album will be one to give a listen. The Rest Is Mystery will be available on CD and Spotify. There will also be an album release show on the day of release, September 20th, at The Waterfront Norwich for those local or traveling.
